Potaminae ist eine der beiden Unterfamilien der Krabben-Familie Potamidae. Es handelt sich um Süßwasserkrabben, die in Südeuropa, Nordafrika und in Westasien bis nach Myanmar im Osten vorkommen.[1]
Merkmale
Potaminae hat die Merkmale der Potamidae. Von der anderen Unterfamilie, den Potamiscinae, unterscheidet sie sich dadurch, dass das achte thorakale Sternit unvollständig durch eine mediane Längslinie unterteilt ist. Die Längslinie setzt sich nach vorn auf das siebte Sternit fort, ist aber an der Naht zwischen siebten und achten Sternit von einer schmalen Querleiste unterbrochen. Diese mediane Linie ist eine Einstülpung des Sternums im Bereich der vertikalen Medianplatte im Inneren.[1]
Die ursprüngliche Abgrenzung der beiden Unterfamilien durch Richard Bott anhand eines Grübchens am ersten Gonopodium zur Aufnahme des zweiten wurde von Peter Ng (1978) wegen Unzuverlässigkeit verworfen.[1]
