  • Reichskrise des 3. Jahrhunderts: Sommer: Durch seine Siege im Norden bestärkt, wendet sich Aurelian den abtrünnigen Provinzen im Süden zu, wo Zenobia die faktische Herrscherin über Ägypten, Syria und Asia ist. Durch den Angriff wird Zenobia gezwungen, ihren Sohn Vaballathus endgültig zum Gegenkaiser auszurufen. Zenobias Armee wird bei Antiochia am Orontes geschlagen. Die Usurpatoren müssen nach Emesa fliehen.
  • August: Kaiser Aurelian, der Zenobia nach Emesa gefolgt ist, kann ihre Truppen erneut schlagen. Zenobia und Vaballathus werden bei ihrer Flucht nach Persien von römischen Soldaten gefangen. Palmyra wird belagert und schließlich erobert. Die südöstlichen Provinzen stehen wieder direkt unter der Kontrolle Roms.
