Holstebro ye una ciudá danesa, capital del conceyu del mesmu nome, na rexón de Xutlandia Central. Tien una población de 34.378 habitantes en 2012.

Ye una ciudá de vocación comercial ya industrial. Les sos industries inclúin maquinaria, producción d'alimentos, fierro, muebles ya industria químico.

Historia

La ciudá anicióse alredor d'un vau por onde se cruciaba'l Storå. Más tarde, nel sitiu construyó una ponte (en danés: bro), lo que da orixe a la segunda parte del nome de Holstebro. La primer parte del nome suxúrese que provién del danés antiguu holstath, con significáu de "buecu" o fuexu", que fadría referencia a la presencia de fundimientos o hendiduras na redoma del ríu. La ciudá ye citada per primer vegada en 1274 col nome de Holstatbro, pero a lo llargo de la historia sería nomada tamién como Holstathbroo (1340), Holstebroff (1418), Holstebrow (1638) y Holstebro (a partir de 1844).

Dende finales del sieglu XIX la ciudá yera'l centru de la fundición de fierro de Xutlandia occidental y cuntó tamién con una importante producción tabacalera. Sicasí, dende les décades de 1960 y 1970 la economía diversificóse.

Na espansión de la ciudá que se vivió na segunda metá del sieglu XX, los nuevos barrios residenciales concentráronse principalmente nel norte, ente que les zones industriales distribuyir na periferia, a lo llargo de la vía de circunvalación.
