Aguascalientes (oficialmente Estado Libre y Soberano de Aguascalientes) ye ún de los 31 estaos que, xunto cola Ciudá de Méxicu, formen los Estaos Xuníos Mexicanos. Asitiáu alredor del meridianu 22°N y con una altitú media de 1.950 m sobre'l nivel del mar[1], ye de clima predominantemente semiáridu (climes Bhs y Bhk de la clasificación de Köppen). Allúgase na fastera septentrional de la rexón de Bajío, nel centru-norte del país, y llenda con Zacatecas al norte, este y oeste, y con Jalisco al sur. En 2019 la so población, la mayoría de la cual vivía na so capital y ciudá principal, Aguascalientes, yera de 1,4 millones d'habitantes[2].

Aguascalientes, que recibe'l so nome por l'abondanza de fontes d'agües termales esistentes nel territoriu, ye ún de los estaos más pequeños de Méxicu: concretamente, el 27ᵘ por población y el 29ᵘ por estensión[1]. Sicasí, ye'l 4ᵘ con mayor densidá de población del país[1], y el so desarrollu económicu de los caberos años ficieron d'elli el 7ᵘ con mayor desarrollu humanu[3] y el 8ᵘ con mayor renta per cápita[4]. Ye, en fin, ún de los más seguros y prósperos del país[5].

Históricamente l'estáu tenía sonadía pola so industria testil y del ferrocarril, y tamién pola industria vinícola, qu'entá sigue siendo importante. Anguaño, tien un sector industrial diversificáu, que tira con fuercia de la economía d'un estáu que foi'l que más medró del país na década de 2010[6], y celébrase nelli la Feria Nacional de San Marcos, la mayor del país y una de les mayores d'América Llatina[7][8].
