Robert Burns Woodward (10 April 1917 – 8 Juli 1979) ialah seorang kimiawan Amerika Serikat yang dianugerahi Nobel Kimia untuk karyanya pada sintesis kimiawi.

Biografi

Woodward terlahir dari pasangan Arthur Woodward (yang datang dari Inggris) dan Margaret Burns (yang datang dari Skotlandia). Woodward belajar di Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Antara tahun 1941-1963, ia mengajar kimia di Universitas Harvard. Pada tahun 1963, ia menjadi direktur Lembaga Penelitian Woodward di Basel, Swiss. Pada tahun 1944, bersama dengan kimiawan William von Eggers Doering, ia mensintesis kina. Woodward juga mensintesis kolesterol dan kortison pada tahun 1951, kemudian pada tahun 1954 ia memimpin kerja penelitian yang memungkinkan sintesis striknina. Pada tahun 1965, atas karyanya pada sintesis kimiawi, ia dianugerahi Nobel Kimia. Ia juga dikenal akan penelitian antibiotik.
