William Nunn Lipscomb, Jr. (9 Desember 1919 – 14 April 2011)[2] ialah seorang kimiawan anorganik Amerika Serikat, yang bekerja di bidang biokimia, kimia teoretis, dan eksperimental.

Ia lahir di Cleveland (Ohio), tetapi keluarganya pindah ke Lexington (Kentucky) saat ia masih bayi, dan tinggal di sana hingga menerima gelar sarjana di University of Kentucky tahun 1941. Ia menerima gelar Doctor of Philosophy dari California Institute of Technology pada tahun 1946.

Antara tahun 1946-1959 ia mengajar di University of Minnesota. Sejak tahun 1959, ia menjadi profesor kimia di Harvard University.

Ia mencurahkan diri di bidang struktur molekuler boron menggunakan kristalografi sinar-X pada tahun 1950-an dan mengembangkan teori untuk menjelaskan ikatannya. Lalu ia menerapkan cara yang sama ke berbagai masalah terkait, termasuk struktur karboran yang ia mengarahkan penelitian Roald Hoffmann yang kelak memenangkan Nobel Kimia. Penelitiannya belakangan berfokus pada struktur atom protein, khususnya pada masalah bagaimana enzim bekerja.

Ia adalah anggota International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science. Profesor Lipscomb juga anggota Orde Kehormatan Kolonel Kentucky.[3]

Ia dipilih ke National Academy of Sciences pada tahun 1961, dan dianugerahi Hadiah Nobel Kimia pada tahun 1976.

Lipscomb, bersama dengan beberapa pemenang Hadiah Nobel lainnya, adalah presenter tahunan di Seremoni Penghargaan Nobel Ig, yang terakhir kali ia melakukannya pada 30 September 2010.[4][5]
