Radio Star (Hangul: 라디오 스타; RR: Ra-di-o Seu-ta) adalah film Korea Selatan produksi tahun 2006 bergenre drama komedi yang disutradarai oleh Lee Joon-ik. Film ini dibintangi oleh Park Joong-hoon dan Ahn Sung-ki mengangkat kisah tentang penuaan, semasa menjadi bintang rock, yang hidupnya terganggu oleh belitan hutang, yang enggan memulai kariernya sebagai DJ di sebuah acara radio kecil di pedesaan, bersama manajernya yang setia mendampingi selama 20 tahun.[1][2]

Latar belakang

Setelah menghasilkan film sejarah Korea Selatan King and the Clown (2005), sutradara Lee Joon-ik menginginkan untuk menindaklanjuti gagasannya membikin karya dengan skala yang lebih kecil. Seperti King and the Clown, Lee ingin, film selanjutnya juga tentang kehidupan yang terpinggirkan.[3] Penulis skenario Choi Seok-hwan menyodorkan kepadanya sebuah naskah yang sudah dikerjakan selama beberapa tahun, Choi sudah bekerja sama dengan Lee dalam film King and the Clown dan Once Upon a Time in a Battlefield (2003).[4]

Aktor Park Joong-hoon (yang punya pengalaman hidup sebagai DJ di KBS 2FM pada dasawarsa 1990-an) menjadi orang pertama yang ditunjuk, dan untuk peran itu, dia dipasangkan dengan Ahn Sung-ki, yang pernah membintangi tiga film sebelumnya, Chilsu and Mansu (1988), Two Cops (1993) dan Nowhere to Hide (1999).[4][4][5]

Anggota band punk rock No Brain juga tampil sebagai pemeran pendukung untuk memperkuat peran Gon menemukan antusiasme dalam bermusik rock kembali. Mereka juga berkontribusi melalui karya-karya dalam bentuk soundtrack, yang dipadu dengan pop klasik dan rock modern.[6][7]

Radio Star dibiayai bersama oleh Achim Pictures dan rumah produksi milik Lee, Cineworld, dan mendistribusikan di wilayah domestik. Sedangkan distributor untuk internasional dikerjakan oleh CJ Entertainment.[8][9]

Radio Star dirilis pada 28 September 2006, selama CHari Raya Chuseok.[10][11] Film ini menuai ulasan positif dari para kritikus film dan ditonton oleh 150,684 pada pekan pertama pemutaran. Rata-rata rating mencapai 9.22 dari10 di sebuah jajak pendapat satu dari 7,749 netizens oleh portal Naver, dan tiket yang terjual cukup menggembirakan.[12][13][14][15][16] Pendapatan kotor dari film ini mencapai US$12,5 juta.[17][18][19]

Park Joong-hoon dan Ahn Sung-ki memenangi penghargaan sebagai aktor terbaik dalam Blue Dragon Film Awards 2006,[20] aan Ahn juga memenangi penghargaan sebagai aktor terbaik dalam Korean Association of Film Critics Awards 2006 serta Grand Bell Awards 2007.[21] Music director Bang Jun-seok menerima nominasi atas kerja kerasnya dalam film ini, dan memenangi penghargaan sebagai penata musik terbaik dalam Korean Association of Film Critics Awards 2006 dan Korean Film Awards 2007.[22][23][24]

Tahun 2008, film ini diadaptasi dalam pertunjukan musik panggung. Pertunjukan ini dibintangi oleh Jung Sung-hwa dan Seo Beom-seok sebagai pemeran Park Min-soo, dan Kim Da-hyun sebagai Choi Gon. Selain itu juga ditampilkan di Seoul Arts Center sejak 26 Januari sampai 2 Maret 2008.[25][26][27][28]
