Politik kekuasaan (atau Machtpolitik dalam bahasa Jerman) adalah bentuk hubungan internasional ketika kedaulatan melindungi kepentingannya sendiri dengan mengancam entitas lain melalui agresi militer, ekonomi, atau politik. Istilah ini dijadikan judul buku Martin Wight tahun 1979 dan merupakan buku paling berpengaruh ke-18 sejak Perang Dunia II menurut Times Literary Supplement.[1]

Politik kekuasaan sebenarnya adalah cara memahami dunia hubungan internasional. Negara-negara bersaing memperebutkan sumber daya dunia dan suatu negara beruntung jika memiliki kemampuan untuk mengacaukan negara lain. Politik jenis ini mengutamakan kepentingan pribadi nasional di atas kepentingan negara lain ataupun komunitas internasional.

Teknik-teknik politik kekuasaan meliputi pengembangan peperangan nuklir tersembunyi, serangan pendahuluan, pemerasan, pengerahan pasukan militer ke perbatasan, penerapan tarif atau sanksi ekonomi, bait and bleed dan bloodletting, penyeimbangan dalam hubungan internasional dan penyeimbangan lembut, buck passing, operasi rahasia, shock and awe, dan peperangan asimetris.
