Model Standar

Model Standar fisika partikel adalah sebuah teori yang menggambarkan gaya fundamental elektromagnetisme, gaya lemah, gaya kuat, dan juga partikel dasar yang membentuk seluruh benda. Berkembang antara 1970 dan 1973, teori ini merupakan sebuah teori medan kuantum yang konsisten dengan mekanika kuantum dan relativitas khusus. Sampai saat ini, hampir seluruh pengujian eksperimen dari ketiga gaya yang dijelaskan oleh Model Standar bukanlah sebuah teori lengkap dari interaksi fundamental, terutama dikarenakan teori ini tidak menjelaskan gravitasi.

Latar belakang sejarah

Pada tahun 1954, Chen Ning Yang dan Robert Mills memperluas konsep teori tolok untuk grup abelian, misalnya elektrodinamika kuantum, menjadi grup nonabelian untuk menjelaskan interaksi kuat.^[1] Pada tahun 1961, Sheldon Glashow menggabungkan interaksi elektromagnetik dan lemah.^[2] Pada tahun 1967 Steven Weinberg^[3] dan Abdus Salam^[4] menggabungkan mekanisme Higgs^[5]^[6]^[7] ke dalam interaksi elektrolemah Glashow, memberikannya bentuknya yang modern. Mekanisme Higgs dipercaya sebagai penyebab dari massa semua partikel dasar dalam Model Standar. Ini termasuk massa boson W dan Z, dan massa fermion, yaitu kuark dan lepton.

Setelah arus netral lemah yang diesebabkan pertukaran boson Z ditemukan di CERN pada tahun 1973,^[8]^[9]^[10]^[11] teori elektrolemah mulai diterima secara luas dan Glashow, Salam, dan Weinberg berbagi Penghargaan Nobel Fisika 1979 atas penemuan tersebut. Boson W^± dan Z⁰ ditemukan lewat eksperimen pada tahun 1983; dan perbandingan massa mereka ditemukan sama dengan yang diprediksi oleh Model Standar.^[12]

Teori interaksi kuat (kromodinamika kuantum, QCD), yang banyak mendapat kontribusi, mencapai bentuk modernnya pada 1973–74 ketika kebebasan asimtotik diusulkan^[13]^[14] (pengembangan yang menjadikan QCD fokus utama dalam penelitian teoretis)^[15] dan eksperimen mengonfirmasi bahwa hadron terdiri dari kuark yang bermuatan pecahan.^[16]^[17]

Istilah "Model Standar" pertama kali diusulkan oleh Abraham Pais dan Sam Treiman pada tahun 1975, mengacu pada teori elektrolemah dengan empat kuark.^[18]

Garis besar

Pada saat ini, materi dan energi paling tepat dipahami sebagai kinematika dan interaksi antara partikel-partikel dasar. Sampai saat ini, fisika telah mereduksi hukum-hukum yang mengatur perilaku dan interaksi antara semua jenis materi dan energi yang diketahui menjadi sehimpunan kecil hukum dan teori fundamental. Sasaran penting dalam fisika adalah menemukan "titik tengah" yang akan menyatukan semua teori tersebut menjadi satu teori segala sesuatu, di mana semua hukum lainnya adalah kasus tertentu dari teori tersebut, dan di mana perilaku semua materi dan energi bisa diturunkan darinya (paling tidak dalam prinsip).^[19]
