Abraham Pais adalah seorang fisikawan teoretis dan sejarawan fisika abad ke-20.

Biografi

Lahir dari pasangan dokter dan perawat pada 18 Agustus 1904 di Butte, Montana. Ia memperoleh gelar Ph.D pertama dalam bidang mekanika kuantum dari University of California di Berkeley di bawah bimbingan Robert Oppenheimer.[1] Pada tahun 1973, ia pensiun dari NASA saat menjabat sebagai kepala ilmuwan di Program Apollo.[1]

Pekerjaan

Abraham Pais bekerja sebagai fisikawan teoretis sekitar 20 tahun. Setelah itu, ia mulai bekerja sebagai sejarawan fisika. Penulisan sejarah fisika oleh Abraham Pais utamanya mengenai para fisikawan yang pernah berinteraksi secara langsung dengannya. Abraham Pais menulis biografi dari para fisikawan teoretis khususnya yang hidup semasa dengannya atau hidup satu masa lebih awal darinya.[2]

Karya tulis

The Genius of Science: A Portrait Gallery membahas tentang karya dan karakter dari 17 fisikawan yang memberikan kontribusi terhadap perkembangan fisika pada abad ke-20. Ketujuh belas tokoh ini ialah Niels Bohr, Max Born, Paul Dirac, Albert Einstein, Mitchell Feigenbaum, Res Jost, Oskar Klein, Hendrik Kramersjsung Dao Lee and Chen NingYang, Wolfgang Pauli, Isidor Rabi, Robert Serber, John von Neumann, Viktor Weisskopf, Eugene Wigner and George Uhlenbeck.[3]
