Yaşamı ve kariyeri

14 Şubat 1956 tarihinde Kayseri'nin Yeşilhisar ilçesinde doğdu. 1978'de Kara Harp Okulundan topçu teğmen rütbesiyle mezun oldu. 1979'da Topçu ve Füze Okulundaki sınıf eğitimini tamamladı. Kara Harp Akademisini bitirerek kurmay subay oldu.

2003'te tuğgeneral rütbesine terfi etti. Bu rütbede 2003-2005 arası Kara Kuvvetleri Personel İşlem daire başkanlığı, 2005-2007 arası 55. Mekanize Piyade Tugayı komutanlığı görevlerinde bulundu.[3] 2007'de tümgeneral rütbesine terfi etti.[4] 2007-2009 arası Genelkurmay Personel Daire Başkanlığı, 2009-2011 arası Topçu ve Füze Okulu komutanlığı yaptı.

2011'de korgeneral rütbesine terfi etti.[5] 2011-2013 arası 4. Kolordu komutanlığı yaptıktan sonra 2013 yılında Türk Kara Kuvvetleri kurmay başkanlığına atandı. 2015'te orgeneral rütbesine terfi etti.[6]

Türk Kara Kuvvetleri Kurmay Başkanı olduğu dönemde meydana gelen 15 Temmuz Darbe Girişimi sırasında Kara Kuvvetleri Komutanı Orgeneral Salih Zeki Çolak ile birlikte Genelkurmay karargâhında derdest edilerek Akıncı Üssü'ne götürüldü.[7][8][9][10][11] 28 Temmuz 2016'daki Yüksek Askerî Şûra toplantısı öncesi Eğitim ve Doktrin Komutanı Orgeneral Kamil Başoğlu ile birlikte emekliliğini istedi ve emekliye ayrıldı.[12][13]
