Service Bureau Corporation

Service Bureau Corporation'ın (SBC) kökenleri 1932'de IBM içindeki Hizmet Bürosu Bölümü olarak ortaya çıktı ve 1957'de IBM'in gelişen hizmet bürosu işlerini yürütmek üzere tamamına sahip olunan bir yan kuruluş olarak ayrıldı.[1]

IBM, 1920'lerden başlayarak büyük şehirlerde, kullanıcıların tam zamanlı bir ekipman kiralamayı haklı çıkaramayan sorunları çözmek için çizelgeleme ekipmanı ve daha sonra bilgi işlem ekipmanı için zaman kiralamalarına olanak tanıyan hizmet büroları işletmekteydi. 1956'da Amerika Birleşik Devletleri Adalet Bakanlığı ile varılan mutabakat kararının bir sonucu olarak IBM, hizmet bürolarını ana şirketten "kol mesafesinde" ulaşılabilir olarak, çalışmaya zorlamak için devre dışı bıraktı.[1]

1968'de IBM, Bilgi Pazarlama Bölümünü SBC'ye devretti. Buna CALL/360 zaman paylaşımlı hizmet, QUIKTRAN, BASIC ve DATATEXT (ATS'ye benzer bir metin işleme sistemi) dahildir.[2]

1973'te, IBM'in var olmayan üst düzey System/360 Model 92'ye ilişkin ön duyurusunda rekabete aykırı davranışlarda bulunduğunu iddia eden çok yıllı bir davayı çözmek için IBM, SBC'yi 16 milyon dolara, büyüyen bir hizmet bürosu işi olan Control Data Corporation'a satıldı.[1]
