Dorothy Stimson (10 Ekim 1890 - 19 Eylül 1988), Amerikalı akademisyen. 1921'den 1947'ye kadar Goucher Koleji'nin dekanlığını yaptı ve 1955'e kadar kolejde tarih profesörüydü.

Stimson, 1953-1957 yılları arasında Bilim Tarihi Derneği'nin başkanı olarak görev yaptı. Araştırması, Kopernik teorisinin kabulünü içeriyordu. Ayrıca bilim tarihi disiplininin kurucusu olarak kabul edilen George Sarton'un bir makale koleksiyonunun editörlüğünü yaptı.[1]

Hayatının erken dönemi ve eğitim

Stimson, 10 Ekim 1890'da St.Louis, Missouri'de Henry Albert Stimson ve Alice Wheaton'ın kızı olarak dünyaya geldi.[2] Eski bir Dartmouth Koleji başkanının torunu ve eski Amerika Birleşik Devletleri Savaş Bakanı Henry L. Stimson'ın kuzeniydi.[3] Stimson, 1912'de Vassar Koleji'nden lisans derecesi ile mezun oldu. Daha sonra Columbia Üniversitesi'nde okudu ve burada 1913'te yüksek lisans ve 1917'de doktora yaptı.[1][4] Tezinin başlığı, Kopernik Evren Teorisinin Kademeli Kabulü idi.

Kariyer

Stimson, 1921'den 1947'ye kadar Goucher Koleji'nde kadınların dekanıydı. Ayrıca Goucher'da uzun süre tarih profesörü olarak görev yaptı.[1]
