Kombustiyon

Ang kombustyon[1] o pagsunog ay ang proseso ng pagkasunog ng biglaan ng panggatong, o ang katayuan pagiging natutupok o nasusunog ng apoy. Isa itong prosesong kimikal, isang eksotermikong reaksiyon sa pagitan ng isang sustansiya (ang panggatong) at isang gas (ang oksidayser), kadalasang O2, upang ipalabas ang init. Sa isang kumpletong reaksiyong kombustyon, nagkakaroon ng reaksiyon ang isang kompuwesto sa isang elementong oksidiser, at ang mga produkto ay mga kompwesto ng bawat elemento sa panggatong kasama ang elementong oksidayser.

Tinatawag din ang kombustyon o kombustiyon bilang pagdiringas, paglilingas, pagdirikit, pagniningas, at pagdidiklap.[1]

Gumagana ang kotse o makina ng kwitis (kuwitis) o pampasibad sa pamamagitan ng kombustyon. Ngunit magkaiba ang nagaganap na kombustyon sa loob ng makina ng kotse kaysa sa makina ng pampasibad. Sa pagdiringas sa kotse, nag-aapoy ang gas at pumuputok sa loob ng mga silinder nang paulit-ulit, na nagdurulot ng pag-andar ng kotse. Sa kombustiyon sa pampasibad, nagaganap ito sa pamamagitan ng panggatong na sumasabog palabas sa likod ng pampasibad, kaya't pumapailanlang o umaangat ang kwitis.
