Ang kayumanggi, abelyana [1] o moreno (Ingles: brown, tan o nut-brown [kulay-mani]; Kastila: avellana o moreno), kapag ginamit sa pangkalahatang termino, ay isang kulay na isang madilim na dilaw, kahel, o pula na may mababang tingkad na may kaugnayan sa mga bagay na kinulayan ng puti,[2] Tinatawag din itong kulay-balat o kulay-kape, ngunit karaniwang ginagamit ang salitang kayumanggi para tukuyin ang kulay ng balat ng tao.[1]

Kasaysayan

Ang kayumanggi ay tila nagmula sa dalawang salita na kayu at manggi. Ang kayu sa Tagalog ay isang manipis na hibla ng tela o sinulid. Kapag sinabing kayu, tiyak na manipis ito at maganda ang sutla o hibla (Ingles: fine o pino). Samantala, ang manggi ay isang salita na harapang nagmula sa magos o magi na ang ibig sabihin ay pantas at may karunungang mga tao. Marahil dito nagmula ang katawagang kayumanggi na ang dating kahulugan nito ay fine magic or sorcery or wisdom o pinong salamangka, mahika o karunungan. Sa Tagalog, "mahusay na kaalaman".[kailangan ng sanggunian]

Mayroon ding mas sinaunang paliwanag hinggil sa pinagmulan ng "kayumanggi". Sinasabing ang "kayu" ay kahoy o puno habang ang "manggi" ay bakawan, parehong mula sa wikang Melayu. Maaaring ito ang paglalarawan ng mga manlalakbay mula sa Indochina/malaya sa mga taong unang nanirahan sa mga baybayin ng kapuluan.

Sa tao

Ang kayumanggi ay tumutukoy sa kulay ng balat ng tao na ang katumbas sa Ingles ay brown at moreno naman sa Espanyol. Hindi pa batid ng maraming Pilipino, ang kayumanggi ay hindi lang nagsasabi ng kulay ng balat ng isang lipi o lahi ng tao sa daigdig na ito.
