Si Gilgamesh (play /ˈɡɪl.ɡə.mɛʃ/; kuneipormang Akkadiano: 𒄑𒂆𒈦 [𒄑𒂆𒈦], Gilgameš, na kadalasang binibigyan ng epithet na ang Hari at kilala rin bilang Bilgames sa pinakamaagang mga tekstong Sumeryo)[1] ang ikalimang hari ng Uruk na kasalukuyang Iraq, (Simulang Dinastiko II, unang dinastiya ng Uruk) na naglalagay sa kanyang paghahari noong ca. 2500 BCE. Ayon sa talaan ng mga haring Sumeryo, siya ay naghari ng 126 na mga taon. Sa Inskripsiyong Tummal,[2] muling itinayo ni Gilgamesh at ng kanyang anak na lalakeng si Urlugal ang sanktuwaryo ng diyosang si Ninlil sa Tumal na isang sagradong kwarter sa kanyang siyudad na Nippur.

Si Gilgamesh ang sentral na karakter sa Epiko ni Gilgamesh na pinakadakilang umiiral na akda ng maagang panitikang Mesopotamiano. Si Gilgamesh ay 2/3 Diyos at 1/3 tao.

Si Gilgamesh ay pangkalahatang tinatanggap ng mga skolar na tunay na umiral sa kasaysayan dahil sa mga inskripsiyon na natuklasan na kumukumpirma sa pag-iral ng ibang mga pigurang nauugnay sa kanya gaya ng mga haring sina Enmebaragesi at Aga ng Kish.[3][4]

Ang mga pragmento ng tekstong epiko na natuklasan sa Me-Turan (modernong Tell Haddad) ay nagsasalaysay na sa wakas ng kanyang buhay, si Gilgamesh ay inilibing sa ilalim ng isang kama ng ilog. Inilihis ng mga tao ng Uruk ang daloy ng Euphrates na dumadaan sa Uruk para sa paglilibing ng namatay na hari sa kama ng ilog. Noong Abril 2003, inangkin ng isang ekspedisyong Aleman na kanilang natuklasan ang huling libingan ni Gilgamesh.[5]
