Vasiľ Hopko roku 1947

Blahoslavený Vasiľ Hopko (* 21. apríl 1904, Hrabské – † 23. júl 1976, Prešov) bol gréckokatolícky biskup.

Život

Narodil sa v rodine Vasiľa Hopka a jeho manželky Anny Petrenkovej. V roku 1947 sa stal pomocným gréckokatolíckym biskupom v Prešove. Po násilnom zrušení Gréckokatolíckej cirkvi na Slovensku v roku 1950 bol internovaný a v roku 1951 odsúdený na 15 rokov odňatia slobody, peňažný trest 20 000 Kčs, stratu občianskych práv na 10 rokov a prepadnutie majetku.

Bol väznený v Bratislave, Ilave, Leopoldove, Prahe, Mírove a vo Valdiciach. V máji 1964 ho „zo zdravotných dôvodov a za dobré správanie” podmienečne prepustili. Po prepustení z väzenia bol internovaný v domácom väzení v Oseku pod drobnohľadom Štátnej bezpečnosti. Po obnovení Gréckokatolíckej cirkvi v roku 1968 pôsobil ako jej svätiaci biskup.

Vladyka Vasiľ Hopko zomrel na následky väznenia 23. júla 1976 v Prešove. Je pochovaný v krypte katedrálneho chrámu sv. Jána Krstiteľa v Prešove.

Blahorečenie

Za blahoslaveného ho vyhlásil pápež Ján Pavol II. 14. septembra 2003 v Bratislave.
