John Charles Carney Jr.[1] (born May 20, 1956) is an American politician who is the Mayor-elect of Wilmington. He has been the 74th governor of Delaware since 2017. Before becoming governor, he served as the U.S. representative for Delaware's at-large congressional district from 2011 to 2017. He was also the 24th lieutenant governor of Delaware from 2001 to 2009.[2]
Carney also served as Delaware's secretary of finance from 1996 to 2000.
In November 2024, Carney was elected mayor of Wilmington, Delaware in a landslide victory.[3]
