Újpest (mađarski: Budapest IV. kerülete) je ime za IV okrug mađarskog glavnog grada Budimpešte, koji je 2015. imao 101,182 stanovnika, koji su živjeli na površini od 18.82 km².[1]

Karakteristike i historija

Újpest leži na sjeveru Budimpešte, duž lijeve obale Dunava. Újpest je sintagma od riječi Új = novi i Pest = Pešta, pa znači "Nova Pešta", koja je počela nicati kasnih 1830-ih, kao industrijsko predgrađe Pešte.[2] Sve do 1907. imala je status sela, tad je dobila status grada. Nakon Drugog svjetskog rata - 1950. anektirala ju je Budimpešta.[2]

Pogled na vijećnicu

Újpest nije neki reprezentativni kvart, sve donedavno bio je sjedište brojnih velikih socijalističkih tvornica od kojih danas većina ne radi, i zjape prazne kao reminescencija nekih prošlih vremena. Danas je to stanbena zona mađarske metropole, sa puno betonskih stambenih zgrada. Najljepši dio je lijepo obnovljeni trg Főtér (Novi trg) sa vijećnicom.[2]
