Princ Shōtoku (聖徳太子 Shōtoku Taishi?, 7. februar 574 – 8. april 622), također poznat i kao Princ Umayado (厩戸皇子 Umayado no ōji?), bio je japanski regent iz Asuka perioda.

Bio je sin cara Yomeija i njegove sestre Princeze Anahobe no Hashihito. Bio je u rodu s uticajnim klanom Soga.[1] Godine 593. je imenovan za regenta (Sesshō) od strane carice Suiko. Kao gorljivi budist je nastojao proširiti tu religiju po Japanu, a isto tako i kao opravdanje dalekosežnih reformi usmjerenih na centralizaciju. Godine 603. je na dvoru utemeljio 12 rangova za državne službenike. Također mu se pripisuje i promulgiranje Ustava od sedamnaest članaka.

Osim politikom, Shotoku se bavio i pisanjem budističkih komentara, pri čemu je posebnu važnost davao Lotusovoj sutri, Vimalakirti Sutri i Sutri Kraljice Srimale.

Godine 605. je primio diplomatsku poruku od kineskog cara Yanga od Suija [2], na što je odgovorio poslavši u Kinu misiju pod Ono no Imokom u 607. U pozdravnoj poruci se za Japan prvi put koristi izraz "Nihon" umjesto dotadašnjeg izraza Wa.
