Democid

Democid (od grčke riječi demos za "narod" i latinske riječi cidere za "sjeći", "ubijati") je izraz koji je skovao američki politolog Rudolph Rummell te ga nastoji popularizirati u širokoj upotrebi kao alternativu i svojevrsnu nadopunu izraza genocid. Prema Rummelu democid označava svaku aktivnost države koja uključuje masovno usmrćivanje njenih građana, podanika ili osoba koje su se našle pod njenom vlašću, pri čemu se kao tri najčešća oblika pojavljuju genocid, politicid i masovna ubistva. Rummelov koncept democida se prvenstveno koristio za opisivanje politike komunističkih režima u 20. vijeku, odnosno kako bi se našao izraz za višemilionske ljudske žrtve prouzročene progonima odnosno represivnom politikom motiviranom ideološkim razlozima, a što uključuje Holodomor, Staljinove čistke ili Veliki korak naprijed u Maovoj Kini.

Rummelov koncept democida je prihvaćen od strane dijela naučne zajednice.[1][2][3]
