Джузеппе Саверио Рафаэле Меркаданте (итал. Giuseppe Saverio Raffaele Mercadante; 17 сентября 1795, Альтамура — 17 декабря 1870, Неаполь) — итальянский композитор, сочинял в основном оперы.

Биография

Музыкальное образование получил в Королевской консерватории в Неаполе, где обучался у Феделе Фенароли, Джованни Фурно, Джакомо Тритто и Николо Антонио Дзингарелли.

В 1818 г. Меркаданте написал свою первую оперу: «Apoteosi d’Ercole» («Апофеоз Геркулеса»), имевшую, как и последующие, большой успех в Италии. Его произведения исполнялись в оперных театрах Италии (Ла Скала, Милан; Театр Сан-Карло, Неаполь; Ла Фениче, Венеция; и др.), Испании, Португалии, Австрии, Франции.

После пребывания в 1827—1829 гг. в Испании и Португалии с 1833 по 1840 год был капельмейстером кафедрального собора в Новаре.

В 1832 году женился на молодой генуэзской вдове с тремя детьми Софье Гамбаро, от брака с которой появилось на свет ещё трое детей — Серафина, Озвино и Саверио.

В 1836 году по приглашению Россини прибыл в Париж, где в Théâtre Italien была поставлена его опера «I briganti» («Разбойники»). Среди опер Меркаданте особенно выделяется «Il Giuramento» («Клятва»), написанная в 1837 году (премьера состоялась в Ла Скала, Милан, ставилась также в Риме, а в 1858 г. на сцене Итальянской оперы в Париже).

С 1839 года Меркаданте стал терять зрение и в конце жизни совершенно ослеп.

В течение 30 лет, с 1840 года до самой смерти был директором консерватории в Неаполе. Он был прекрасным профессором пения и гармонии (среди его учеников были Антонио Бранкалеоне Гандольфо, Феличита фон Вестфали и Хайме Нуно).

В 1876 году ему был поставлен в Неаполе мраморный памятник.

Правнуками Меркаданте были братья Эрнесто де Куртис и Джамбаттиста де Куртис[итал.], авторы многих получивших мировую известность неаполитанских песен.
