PLAnetary Transits and Oscillations of stars (PLATO) — планируемый Европейским космическим агентством космический телескоп, который будет с помощью группы фотометров обнаруживать и характеризовать экзопланеты всех типов и размеров в системах жёлтых и оранжевых карликов, подобных нашему Солнцу. Телескоп планируется запустить в 2026 году[1][2] на ракете Ariane 62[3], и затем разместить в точке Лагранжа L2.

Эта миссия будет отличаться от «COROT» и «Кеплер» тем, что она будет изучать сравнительно яркие звезды (от 8 до 11 звёздной величины), облегчая таким образом подтверждение своих открытий с помощью метода доплеровской спектроскопии. Телескоп будет иметь гораздо большее поле зрения, чем «Кеплер» (поле зрения которого составляет 100 квадратных градусов), что позволит ему изучать более широкую выборку звёзд. Различные версии проекта предполагают наблюдения звёзд в области неба порядка 1250-3600 квадратных градусов, таким образом, возможно отслеживание кривых блеска до 260 000 прохладных карликов и субгигантов (Кеплер наблюдает 25 000 звёзд этих типов).
