Diótrefes

Diótrefes foi um homem citado na Terceira Epístola de João nos versículos 9-11. Seu nome significa "alimentado por Júpiter". Segundo afirma Raymond E. Brown, Diótrefes não era um nome muito comum.[1]

Além de ser ambicioso, orgulhoso, desrespeitoso de autoridade apostólica, rebelde e inóspito, o autor da carta diz que Diótrefes tentou impedir aqueles que desejavam mostrar hospitalidade aos irmãos e expulsá-los da congregação. Nem mesmo a localização da igreja de Diótrefes pode ser determinada a partir da carta. É discutível se a antipatia expressada em 3 João é baseada em "uma disputa teológica, um choque de autoridades eclesiásticas concorrentes, um desentendimento sobre responsabilidades financeiras para a missão, ou aversão pessoal".[2]
