Aquela municipalitat a situat dins montanha a lo-dessus de la vallée de la Mauriana entre las municipalitats de Aiguebelle, cap de-luòc del costat e de Épierre. Longtemps dominada per la produccion de minaré de fèrre, la municipalitat s'orienta de mai en mai cap a un torisme rural e cultural amb la dubertura recenta de lo sieu éco-musèu.

Appelée jusqu'en 2013 Saint-Georges-des-Hurtières, cette commune est située en montagne au-dessus de la vallée de la Maurienne entre les communes d'Aiguebelle, chef-lieu du canton et d'Épierre. Longtemps dominée par la production de minerai de fer, la commune s'oriente de plus en plus vers un tourisme rural et culturel avec l'ouverture récente de son éco-musée.
