Messier 108 på Commons

Messier 108 (også kjent som M108 eller NGC 3556) er en stavspiralgalakse i stjernebildet Store bjørn. Galaksen ble oppdaget av Pierre Méchain i 1781 eller 1782.[5] Denne galaksen er et isolert[3] medlem av Store bjørn-hopen av galakser i Virgo-superhopen. Den har en morgologisk klassifikasjon av type SBbc i de Vaucouleurs system, noe som betyr at det er en stavspiralgalakse med en noe løst viklede armer. Den maksimale vinkelstørrelsen til galaksen i det optiske bandet er 11′.1 × 4′.6, og den er inklinert 75° mot siktlinjen.[4]
