Klavierbüchlein für Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (originaltittel Clavier-Büchlein vor Wilhelm Friedemann Bach) er en samling mindre komposisjoner Bach satte sammen som et hjelpemiddel i undervisningen av sin eldste sønn, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. Verket er skrevet for ulike klaviaturinstrumenter, hovedsakelig klavikord og cembalo.

Tilblivelse

Bach noterte oppstartdatoen 22. januar 1720 på tittelbladet; da var Wilhelm Friedemann drøyt ni år gammel. De fleste stykkene er tidlige versjoner av stykker i samlingen Das Wohltemperierte Klavier og Inventionen und Sinfonien. I tillegg finnes noen suiter av andre komponister og flere enkeltsatser, hvorav mange med omstridt komponist; til dels er det nok snakk om komposisjonsforsøk av Wilhelm Friedemann.[1] Forfatterne av verkfortegnelsen Bach Werke Verzeichnis tilskrev Neun Kleine Präludien (BWV 924 til 932) Johann Sebastian, men mange musikkforskere mener de er av Wilhelm Friedemann.

To år senere begynte Bach på et lignende hefte for sin andre kone: Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach, og få år senere et andre hefte for henne. Eventuelle lignende hefter han måtte ha laget for sine andre sønner og mange elever er ikke bevart.

Boka begynner med en tre siders oversikt over notesystemet (nøkkelsymboler, ornamentikk, fingersetning). Stykkene er stort sett ordnet i en pedagogisk rekkefølge. Heftet starter med Applicatio C-dur (BWV 994) og Präludium g-moll (BWV 930), som er de eneste eksempler på autografe fingersetninger fra Bachs hånd. Bachs eneste andre verk med fingersetninger er C-dur-Präludium BWV 870a, men de er ført inn av Johann Caspar Vogler (1696–1765), Bachs elev og etterfølger i Weimar.[2]

Deretter følger noen lette enkeltsatser – preludier og koralbearbeidelser – og så elleve preludier som han senere omarbeidet og innlemmet i Das Wohltemperierte Klavier. Etter noen ytterligere enkeltsatser og skisser følger tidlige versjoner av Tostemte Inventionen, så suiter av Richter, Telemann og Stölzel – med Friedemanns små komposisjonsforsøk innimellom – og til slutt Trestemte Inventionen.[3]
