Helge Rønning (født 1. september 1943) er professor emeritus ved Institutt for medier og kommunikasjon ved Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) og tidligere ansatt ved Institutt for nordisk språk og litteratur ved UiO.

Han er mag.art. fra UiO i 1971 og har også studert ved Brandels University i Massachusetts i USA og School of Oriental and African Studies i London.[2] Ved siden av sitt medievitenskapelige forfatterskap har han også skrevet og redigert flere bøker om og fra afrikansk kultur og samfunn.

Rønning var medlem av regjeringens ytringsfrihetskommisjon (1996-1999).[3] og har også vært leder av Norsk faglitterær forfatter- og oversettelsesforening, styreleder i Kopinor og redaktør i Samtiden. Han har ogå vært litteraturkritiker i Dagbladet.
