Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau AG var en tysk flyprodusent, særlig kjent for jagerflyet Focke-Wulf Fw 190.

Bakgrunn

Selskapet ble grunnlagt 23. oktober 1923 i Bremen som Bremer Flugzeugbau AG av professor Heinrich Focke, Georg Wulf og dr. Werner Naumann. Kort etter skiftet det navn til Focke-Wulf. I 1931 fusjonerte det med Berlin-selskapet Albatros Flugzeugwerke. Den dyktige ingeniøren og testpiloten Kurt Tank fra Albatros ble leder av den tekniske avdelingen. Han startet omgående arbeidet med Fw 44 Stieglitz, selskapet første kommersielle suksess, som kom på markedet i 1934. Selskapet utviklet også det første fullt fungerende helikopter, Focke-Wulf Fw 61, som ble demonstrert av testpiloten Hanna Reitsch i 1936 i Berlin. I 1937 måtte Heinrich Focke forlate selskapet, og han grunnla sammen med Gerd Achgelis, Focke-Achgelis, som spesialiserte seg på helikoptre. Samtidig hadde Tank designet og produsert passasjerflyet Fw 200 Kondor, som kunne fly over Atlanteren non-stop.

Andre verdenskrig

Fw 200 ble senere modifisert til bombefly og patruljefly for Luftwaffe. Fw 190 Würger, designet fra 1938 og satt i produksjon mellom 1941 og 1945, var et av Luftwaffes fremste jagerfly under annen verdenskrig.

Etterkrigstiden

Etter krigen emigrerte Kurt Tank og mange av selskapets menn til Latin-Amerika, hvor Tank var ledende i Argentinas flyutvikling. Focke-Wulf startet produksjonen igjen i 1951, og produserte treningsfly for Luftwaffe fra 1955. Fra 1961 innledet Focke-Wulf et samarbeide med Weserflug og Hamburger Flugzeugbau om utvikling av raketter. Focke-Wulf fusjonerte med Weserflug i 1964, og ble til Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke (VFW).
