Barry Rogers
Barron W. «Barry» Rogers (22. mai 1935–18. april 1991) var ein USA-amerikansk jazz- og salsatrombonist.
Karriere
Han vart fødd i The Bronx, nedstamma frå polske jødar og voks opp i Spanish Harlem. Familien hans (opphavleg namn: Rogenstein) hadde ein sterk musikalitet. Far hans og fleire av onklane hans song i koret til Joseph Rosenblatt, og mor hans underviste i Afrika og Mexico, noko som inspirerte ei interesse for musikk frå andre nasjonar. Mambo og jazz var populært i nabolaget hans.
Som elev av jazztrombonistane Jack Teagarden, Lawrence Brown og J.C. Higginbotham byrja Rogers å spela latinamerikansk musikk i midten av 1950-åra, og skulle frå då av bli mest knytt til han. Han utvikla stilen sin medan han arbeidde med Eddie Palmieri.[1] Willie Colón rekna Rogers som sine sterkaste musikalske innverknader og ville ha han med i mange av produksjonane sine. Bobby Valentín brukte Rogers på songen «El Jíbaro y la Naturaleza», noko som fekk Marvin Santiago til å gi han kallenamnet «El Terror de los Trombones» på plata.

Sjølv om han er kjend som salsatrombonist og studiomusikar, arbeidde han òg med jazz-, soul- og popmusikarar. Han var ein av grunnleggjarane av bandet Dreams med Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker og Billy Cobham. Han jobba òg med George Benson, David Byrne, Ron Carter, Aretha Franklin, Don Grolnick, Bob James, Elton John, Chaka Khan, Bob Moses, Todd Rundgren, Carly Simon, Spyro Gyra, James Taylor og Grover Washington jr. Som far til trompetisten Chris Rogers, døydde Barry Rogers brått i Washington Heights i Manhattan i ein alder av 55 år.
