Pertempuran Cape Gloucester

Pertempuran Cape Gloucester berlaku di perbatasan Pasifik semasa Perang Dunia II antara pasukan tentera Jepun dan Berikat di pulau New Britain, Wilayah New Guinea, antara 26 Disember 1943 sehingga 16 Januari 1944. Dengan nama kod Operasi Backhander, pendaratan pasukan AS merupakan sebahagian daripada Operasi Cartwheel yang lebih besar, di mana strategi Pihak Berikat di Kawasan Pasifik Barat Daya dan Kawasan Lautan Pasifik pada tahun 1943–1944. Ia merupakan pendaratan kedua Divisyen Pertama Marin semasa itu, selepas Guadalcanal. Objektif operasi ini adalah untuk menawan dua buah lapangan terbang Jepun yang terletak berdekatan dengan Cape Gloucester yang mana dipertahankan oleh pasukan-pasukan daripada Divisyen ke-17.
