Graciadijas Izaja Askolis (it. Graziadio Isaia Ascoli, 1829 m. liepos 16 d. Goricija, Austrijos imperija – 1907 m. sausio 21 d. Milanas, Italijos karalystė) – italų kalbininkas.

Biografija

G. Askolis gimė itališkai kalbančioje žydų šeimoje daugiataučiame Goricijos mieste, tuo metu priklausiusiame Austrijos imperijai, šiuo metu – Italijai. Dar vaikystėje, be italų, išmoko ir kitų mieste vartojamų kalbų: vokiečių, slovėnų, friulų ir venetų.

Būdamas savamokslis, 1854 m. publikavo pirmąjį svarbų darbą apie Rytų kalbas. 1860 m. buvo priimtas eiti kalbotyros profesoriaus pareigas į Milano Mokslo ir literatūros akademiją, čia jis dėstė lyginamosios kalbotyros, romanų kalbų ir sanskrito kursus.

G. Askolis įnešė didelį indėlį į semitų ir indoeuropiečių kalbų giminystės tyrimus ir buvo čigonų bei keltų kalbų tyrimų pionierius. Sudarė pirmąją sisteminę italų kalbos tarmių klasifikaciją.

G. Askolis buvo Aukštojo Italijos švietimo komiteto narys, daugybė Italijos kalbotyros draugijų buvo jį išrinkusios garbės nariu. G. Askolis taip pat buvo Paryžiaus „Académie des inscriptions et belles lettres“ ir Berlyno, Vienos ir Budapešto mokslo akademijų narys korespondentas. 1899 m. iki gyvenimo pabaigos buvo paskirtas eiti Italijos senato nario pareigas, o 1906 m. imperatorius Vilhelmas II jį pagerbė aukščiausiu Prūsijos ordinu – „Pour le Mérite“(„Už nuopelnus“).^[1]

G. Askolis yra substrato teorijos autorius, pasak šios teorijos, kalbų formavimasis ir pokyčiai yra gyventojų perėjimo nuo vienos kalbos prie kitos interferencijos rezultatas.

G. Askolis mirė 1907 m. sausio 21 d. Milane. Goricijoje, gimtajame mokslininko mieste, yra jo vardu pavadinta gatvė, joje stovi sinagoga.^[2]
