1979年熊本県会議員選挙（1979ねんくまもとけんかいぎいんせんきょ）は、熊本県の議決機関である熊本県議会を構成する議員を全面改選するために行われる選挙で、第9回統一地方選挙の前半戦投票日である4月8日に投票が行われた。

概要

熊本県議会議員の任期（4年）が満了したことによる選挙である。国勢調査の結果に基づき、熊本市で定数が1増、下益城郡で定数が1減となり、県全体では定数は変わらず56議席が本選挙で改選されることとなった。24選挙区56議席に対し82名が立候補したが、6選挙区・9名が無投票当選となり、残る18選挙区73名によって選挙戦が行われた[1]。

また、今回選挙からポスター掲示板が設置されることとなり、選挙運動の公営化がはじめて実現された[2]。

自民党は現職7人が落選する大打撃を受けたものの、無所属で当選した10人のうち8人が12月までに自民党へ入党し、議会内の絶対多数は変わらなかった。しかし、民社党と新自由クラブがはじめて議席を獲得し、熊本県議会においても多党化が目立つ結果となった[3]。
