経歴

プロ入り前

高校時代は野球と並行してバスケットボールもプレーしていた。2014年のMLBドラフト37巡目 (全体1099位) でシカゴ・カブスから指名されたが、契約を拒否してサンディエゴ大学へ進学した[1]。

プロ入りとブルージェイズ時代

2017年のMLBドラフト3巡目 (全体99位) でトロント・ブルージェイズから指名されプロ入り[2]。契約金は54万2000ドル[3]。傘下のA-級バンクーバー・カナディアンズでプロデビューし、52試合に出場して打率.305、3本塁打、35打点の成績を記録した[4]。

2018年はA+級ダニーデン・ブルージェイズで99試合に出場して打率.246、4本塁打、43打点の成績を記録した。

2019年はA+級ダニーデンで開幕を迎え、シーズン途中にAA級ニューハンプシャー・フィッシャーキャッツに昇格。2チーム合計で100試合に出場して打率.261、14本塁打、51打点の成績を記録した。

2020年は新型コロナウイルスの影響でマイナーリーグの試合が開催されなかった。オフの11月20日に40人枠に登録された。

2021年はAAA級バッファロー・バイソンズで開幕を迎え、5月2日にメジャー契約を結んでアクティブ・ロースター入りしたが、試合に出場することなく5日に再びAAA級バッファローに降格[5][6]。その後6月8日に再びメジャー契約を結んでアクティブ・ロースター入りし、同日のシカゴ・ホワイトソックス戦でメジャーデビューを果たした[7]。この試合でカルロス・ロドンからメジャー初安打となる二塁打を放った。

ナショナルズ時代

2021年7月29日にブラッド・ハンドとのトレードで、ワシントン・ナショナルズへ移籍した[8]。


人物

3歳のころから空手を練習しており、13歳のときに2度の黒帯を獲得している[9]。

兄のキャメロンも野球選手で、セントルイス・ワシントン大学でプレーしていた[10]。

大学時代はシロガネヨシの研究を行っており、カリフォルニア州の科学博覧会に招待されるほどの成果を残した。
