プラティプテリギウス亜科（Platypterygiinae）は、ジュラ紀後期キンメリッジアン期から白亜紀後期セノマニアン期のアジア、オーストラリア、ヨーロッパ、南北アメリカに生息していた絶滅したオフタルモサウルス科の魚竜の亜科である。ブラキプテリギウスを最古の属に持つ。歯根の断面が正方形であること、後頭骨基底部の顆頭部が極端に小さいこと、上腕骨の腹側と背側に転子（関節に存在する突起。ヒトでは大腿骨に存在する）が存在すること、座骨恥骨に閉鎖孔が存在しないことがプラティプテリギウス亜科の特徴である[2]。

系統発生

Maxim S. Arkhangelsky により2001年にプラティプテリギウス亜科は命名され、Aleski Masluk により二重に記載された。Fischerらが2012年に初めて「Ophthalmosaurus icenicusよりもPlatypterygius hercynicusに近縁な全ての分類群」として系統学的に定義した。

ただしエリン・E・マクスウェルをはじめとして、分類にプラティプテリギウス亜科を用いない研究者もいる。マクスウェルはオフタルモサウルス科の魚竜であるジェンガサウルスの原記載論文を2017年に発表したが、論文中のクラドグラムにはプラティプテリギウス亜科は用いられていない[3]。
