ノドジロオオトカゲ(V. albigularis)は数を6つまで計測できることが報告されている[9][10]。ナイルオオトカゲ( V. niloticus)では数匹が協力して守りの堅いワニの巣から卵を略奪することが報告されてもいる[9][10]。ワシントンD.Cの動物園の飼育員による報告では、オオトカゲにはそれぞれ個体差(言わば“個性”)が見られるという。また度重なる訓練(報酬による条件付け)によって躾けられたオオトカゲも確認されている[11]。
