Gli scombriformi (Scombriformes), noti anche come Pelagia o Pelagiaria, sono un ordine di pesci ossei appartenenti al clado Percomorpha.[1][2][3]

L’ordine comprende 287 specie viventi suddivise in 16 famiglie, molte delle quali precedentemente classificate nei sottordini Scombroidei e Stromateoidei dell’ordine Perciformes.[1][4]

Il più antico scombriforme conosciuto è lo scombride estinto Landanichthys, vissuto nel Paleocene medio in quella che oggi è l’Angola.[5]

Tassonomia

Secondo Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes (2025) e altri studi recenti, l'ordine Scombriformes include le seguenti famiglie:[2][6]

La famiglia fossile †Carangodidae è nota grazie a fossili provenienti da terreni dell'Eocene di Monte Bolca (Italia).[7]
