NGC 3454 è una galassia a spirale barrata vista di taglio e situata nella costellazione del Leone, a una distanza di circa 69 milioni di anni luce dalla nostra Via Lattea.[1]

Scoperta

La galassia è stata scoperta il 17 marzo 1831 dall'astronomo britannico John Herschel.[1]

Descrizione

NGC 3454 ha una classe di luminosità III e presenta una larga riga a 21 cm dell'idrogeno neutro.[2] Nella galassia sono presenti anche regioni di idrogeno ionizzato.[2]

NGC 3454 fa parte del Gruppo di NGC 3370, che comprende almeno altre 4 galassie: NGC 3370, NGC 3443, NGC 3455 e UGC 5945.[4]

Secondo E.L. Turner, NGC 3454 e NGC 3455 formano una coppia di galassie ravvicinate.[5]
