NGC 3455 è una galassia a spirale situata nella costellazione del Leone, a una distanza di circa 69 milioni di anni luce dalla nostra Via Lattea.[1]

Scoperta

La galassia è stata scoperta il 21 marzo 1784 dall'astronomo britannico di origine tedesca William Herschel.[1]

Descrizione

NGC 3455 ha una classe di luminosità II e presenta una larga riga a 21 cm dell'idrogeno neutro.[2]

NGC 3455 fa parte del Gruppo di NGC 3370, che comprende almeno altre 4 galassie: NGC 3370, NGC 3443, NGC 3454 e UGC 5945.[4]

Secondo E.L. Turner, NGC 3454 e NGC 3455 formano una coppia di galassie ravvicinate.[5]
