Yuwanaswa

Yuwanaswa (Dewanagari: युवनाश्व; ,IAST: Yuwanāśwa, युवनाश्व) adalah seorang tokoh dalam mitologi Hindu, raja dari Dinasti Surya, keturunan Puranjaya. Menurut kitab Wisnupurana, Yuwanaswa tida memiliki keturunan. Oleh karena itu, ia menyelenggarakan suatu upacara suci yang dipimpin oleh para resi demi memperoleh keturunan. Upacara tersebut berakhir pada tengah malam. Sebagai hasil dari upacara tersebut, para resi memperoleh air suci yang harus diminum oleh sang permaisuri agar dia hamil. Para resi menyimpan air tersebut dalam sebuah kendi.

Saat tengah malam, Yuwanaswa yang merasa haus tidak tahu bahwa air suci disimpan dalam kendi dan ia meminumnya. Maka dari itu, janin bayi tumbuh dalam tubuhnya dari hari ke hari. Saat waktunya tiba bagi sang bayi untuk lahir, maka ia lahir menembus tubuh bagian kanan Yuwanaswa. Ajaibnya, Yuwanaswa tidak wafat setelah melahirkan.

Yuwanaswa merasa bingung menentukan siapa ibu bagi anak yang dilahirkannya. Kemudian Dewa Indra datang menemui Yuwanaswa dan berkata bahwa ia bersedia menjadi pengasuh bayi tersebut. Bayi itu dinamai Mandata, berasal dari kalimat bahasa Sanskerta mam dhata, yang berarti "aku bersedia menjadi pengasuhnya." Karena diasuh oleh Indra, bayi itu tumbuh dengan cepat hanya dalam satu hari. Akhirnya, ia menjadi penguasa dunia, dari wilayah terbit hingga tenggelamnya matahari.
