Islam di Estonia adalah agama minoritas. Menurut sensus data pada tahun 2011, 11.873 warga Estonia atau 1,9% dari total populasi Estonia adalah pemeluk Islam. [1]

Sejarah

Islam pada mulanya dibawa oleh orang-orang Tatar Lipka yang tiba disana pada tahun 889 dan diperkenalkan kembali dari Kekaisaran Rusia pada tahun 1721. Pada tahun inilah umat Islam di Estonia diterima dengan baik dan dimasukkan ke dalam agama negara Estonia oleh konstitusi pada tahun 1928.

Untuk ketiga kalinya terjadi imigrasi massal selama kependudukan Uni Soviet yang terjadi pada tahun 1949-1991. Ketika itulah, kebebasan beragama di Estonia mulai dicabut. Banyak Muslim Tatar dibunuh dan dipaksa menggunakan Bahasa Rusia. Setelah kemerdekaan Estonia atas Uni Soviet pada tahun 1991, banyak Muslim dari Bangsa Tatar mengalami diskriminasi.[2]

Wilayah dan Masjid

0,1% Muslim Estonia tinggal di Tallinn. Sisanya tinggal di beberapa wilayah seperti Nakvere dan Narva. Kebanyakan Muslim Estonia adalah Sunni yang menyusun 65% dari Muslim Estonia dan sisanya adalah Syiah.

Dahulu terdapat sebuah masjid yang terletak di Narva. Namun, itu sudah dihancurkan pada tahun 1944 atau pada saat perang dunia II. Namun, terdapat pula sebuah pusat Islam sekaligus masjid yang terletak di Tallinn. Itu dinamakan Estonian Islamic Center.
