שמלה אדומה (פרויקט רקמה)

השמלה ב-2019

השמלה האדומה היא פרויקט רקמה שיתופי בינלאומי, שנוצר בין השנים 2009 ל-2022 ותואם על ידי האמנית הבריטית מסומרסט קירסטי מקלאוד.[1][2][3][4][5]

הרעיון לפרויקט החל בוועדה של המועצה הבריטית בדובאי,[6] ומאז נתמך על ידי מועצת האמנויות באנגליה, שגרירות בריטניה בפרישטינה (בירת קוסובו) ותרומות רבות מאנשים פרטיים, כולל מימון המונים לשנת 2020.[7]

את השמלה רקמו 343 רוקמות ורוקמים (336 נשים ו-7 גברים) מ-46 מדינות. 136 מהרוקמים קיבלו שכר עבור עבודתם ומקבלים חלק מרווחי התערוכה; האחרים היו משתתפים מתנדבים באירועים ותערוכות. השמלה מורכבת מ-84 לוחות של דופיון משי בורדו ומשקלה 20 ק"ג.[7] מקלאוד אמרה כי "הצללית של השמלה הזו חזקה ומועצמת בכוונה. השתמשתי בעיצובים צבאיים לאורך הכתפיים והחלק הקדמי, אבל רציתי שהיא תראה בצורה נשית מאוד. כל קו מעוקל הוא מחוך במלואו אני חושבת שיש לזה נוכחות מלכותית".[5] היא בחרה באדום כי "...אי אפשר להתעלם מהאדום. רציתי שזו תהיה אמירה אמיתית - ושתהיה לה מערכת יחסים עם מחזוריות של נשים, אהבה, כעס, תשוקה", "זה צבע מעשי שגם יכול לעמוד בנסיעות!".[5]

השמלה הוצגה ברחבי העולם. בתערוכות מוקדמות ישבה מקלאוד, לובשת את השמלה תוך כדי רקמתה, כמיצב אמנותי: "כשהיא הוצגה בהתחלה, לבשתי אותה, יושבת בתוך קובייה שבה הייתי רוקמת בשידור חי, כהופעה, במשך ארבע שעות בכל פעם. "מאוחר יותר היא הוצגה על דוכן כדי להראות את כולה. היא הוצגה במקומות רבים לרבות בית הספר המלכותי לעבודות רקמה בבריטניה,[1] והספרייה הלאומית של קוסובו, בפריסטינה. במסגרת התוכניות העתידיות תוצג השמלה גם ב-אוסטרליה, קנדה, קולומביה, מצרים, פקיסטן, דרום אפריקה וארצות הברית.[8] תערוכה במוזיאון לאמנות פופולרי במקסיקו בשנת 2020 בוטלה בגלל מגפת COVID-19.

מקלאוד זכתה במקום הראשון בפרס ולצ'לינה לשנת 2012, תחרות בינלאומית איטלקית הפתוחה לאמני סיבים מתחת לגיל 35. באותה שנה היה הנושא "ערבוב תרבויות".[9]

הפרויקט נקרא במקור Barocco,[10] המונח הפורטוגזי לפנינה לא מושלמת, שלדברי מקלאוד הצביע על כך ש"שמדובר במשהו מיוחד אבל תחום בתוך מבנה". היא שינתה אותו ל"השמלה האדומה" ככותרת מובנת יותר וקלה להיגוי.[5]
