שרה בלצ'ר (באנגלית: Sara Blecher) היא במאית ומפיקת קולנוע יהודיה דרום אפריקאית.

קורות חיים

במקור מדרום אפריקה, בלצ'ר ומשפחתה עברו לניו יורק כשהיא הייתה בת 12.[1] משפחתה ממוצא יהודי-ליטאי, דבר המשתקף גם בעבודתה.[2] זמן אחרי תקופה קצרה באוניברסיטת ג'ורג'טאון, בוושינגטון די. סי., בלצ'ר עברה לגור בפריז במשך שנה, ובחזרתה לארצות הברית, נרשמה ללימודי קולנוע בניו יורק. בשנת 1992, זמן קצר לאחר סיום לימודיה בחוג לקולנוע באוניברסיטת ניו יורק, היא חזרה לדרום אפריקה.[3] היא עבדה בתור עיתונאית עבור תאגיד השידור של דרום אפריקה (SABC), והחלה ליצור ולביים סדרות, יחד עם אמה, הילרי בלצ'ר,[4] במסגרת חברת ההפקה שהקימה בצ'ר, CINGA Productions.[5]

בכורת סרטה השני, "איינדה, התקיימה ב-10 באוקטובר בפסטיבל הסרטים של לונדון, וזכה בכיבודים בינלאומיים בפסטיבל הקולנוע של לוס אנג'לס ב-2015.[7] 

ביולי 2018, יצא סרטה Mayfair. בכורת הסרט התקיימה בדרבן, ב-21 ביולי. הסרט הוא מעין סרט גנגסטרים, מהז'אנר של "הסנדק", אך על פי מבקרים, הוא חורג ומתעלה על הז'אנר בכך שמביא רבדים נוספים, ביניהם מבט נשי על עולם זה, וההקשרים הייחודיים של דרום אפריקה, מהגרים, והשפעת העוני והתערבות ארגונים והפוליטיקה שלהם.[8]

נכון לסוף שנת 2018, סרטה הבא, Barry, הוא בשלבי קדם הפקה.

בלצ'ר היא חברה מייסדת בארגון Sisters Working in Film and Television ‏(SWIFT), ארגון שנוסד בדרום אפריקה לשם העצמת נשים בתעשיית הקולנוע, קידום שוויון מגדרי, והכרה בהצטלביות שבחוויותיהן של נשים בתחומים שלפני ומאחורי המצלמה, בתעשייה שבכל ההיסטוריה שלה בשליטה גברית, ובמיוחד של קולנועניות של צבע בתעשייה שבעיקרה לבנה.

בלצ'ר רואה בהיותה אישה שמייצרת קולנוע אחריות, וגם כאשר עיקר הסיפור הוא בין אב לבין, כדוגמת סרטה האחרון, היא סבורה שהאופן שבו האלימות שבסרט מוצגת, וכן קשרים קהילתיים ונושאים אחרים. לדבריה, ההשפעה על הסרט הייתה רבה: "מה שמתחיל כקרב יריות סטנדרטי, הופך להיות המסע הרגשי של הגיבור... אני חושבת שזה המבט הנשי".[8]

Mayfair יצא באותו השבוע שבו תעשיית הקולנוע בדרום אפריקה הורעשה בשל סדרת האשמות של הטרדה מינית נגד בכיר התעשייה קאלו מטבנה. במסגרת SWIFT, בלצ'ר, היו"ר הנוכחית של SWIFT, הייתה חלק מקמפיין #ThatsNotOK נגד הטרדה מינית, ואומרת שהיא מרגישה שיש שינוי תודעתי היום בתעשייה לעומת העבר. הארגון הפיק סרטון קצר על הטרדה מינית במקום העבודה שהוקרן לפני כל סרט בפסטיבל דרבן בה הייתה בכורת הסרט שלה.[9]
