אפרים ג'וזף "רד" רוצ'ה (באנגלית: Ephraim Joseph "Red" Rocha;‏ 18 בספטמבר 1923 – 13 בפברואר 2010) היה כדורסלן ומאמן כדורסל אמריקאי, אשר שיחק בליגת ה-NBA בין השנים 1947–1957. בעונת 1954/1955 זכה באליפות ה-NBA כשחקן סירקיוז נשיונלס, ולאורך הקריירה השתתף פעמיים במשחק האולסטאר ורשם ממוצעים כוללים של 10.9 נקודות, 6.6 ריבאונדים ו-2.0 אסיסטים למשחק.[1]

במשחק השני של סדרת חצי גמר המזרח 1953 בין סירקיוז לבוסטון, אשר נגרר ל-4 הארכות, שיחקו רוצ'ה ופול סימור 67 דקות – ומאז הם מחזיקים יחדיו בשיא למספר דקות במשחק פלייאוף.[2][3][4]

קריירת משחק

רוצ'ה נולד וגדל בעיר הילו שבהוואי, ובין השנים 1943–1947 למד באוניברסיטת המדינה של אורגון. בעונת 1946/1947 סייע לקבוצת הכדורסל של האוניברסיטה להעפיל לטורניר אליפות המכללות, לראשונה בתולדותיה, ובסיומה נבחר לחמישייה השנייה של העונה בליגת המכללות (Second-team All-American).[5]

בדראפט ה-BAA‏ 1947 נבחר רוצ'ה על ידי קבוצת טורונטו האסקיז, אשר מיד לאחר מכן התפרקה, וב"דראפט הפיזור" שנערך על שחקניה נבחר על ידי סנט לואיס בומרס. במשך 43 שנים היה השחקן היחיד בתולדות ה-NBA שמוצאו בהוואי, עד שהצטרף לליגה סדריק סבאלוס בשנת 1990. ב-3 עונותיו בקבוצה קלע 11.6 נקודות למשחק. באפריל 1950 התפרק גם מועדון הבומרס, ורוצ'ה עבר לבולטימור בולטס במסגרת דראפט הפיזור. לאורך עונתו היחידה בבולטימור קלע 13.1 נקודות למשחק, ובמהלכה נבחר להשתתף במשחק האולסטאר הראשון של ה-NBA.

לקראת עונת 1951/1952 הועבר רוצ'ה בטרייד לסירקיוז נשיונלס, בתמורה לפרד סקולארי ואלכס האנום. בעונת 1954/1955 קלע 11.3 נקודות למשחק והיה אחד משחקני המפתח של הקבוצה, לצד דולף שייס, פול סימור, ג'וני קר וארל לויד, אשר הובילו את סירקיוז לזכייתה הראשונה באליפות ה-NBA. בעונת 1956/1957 שיחק עבור פורט ויין פיסטונס, בטרם פרש ממשחק בגיל 33.

קריירת אימון

במהלך עונת 1957/1958 מונה למאמן דטרויט פיסטונס, במקומו של צ'ארלס אקמן. בפלייאוף של אותה עונה הודחו הפיסטונס בגמר האזור המערבי, ובפלייאוף 1959 הפסידו כבר בסיבוב הראשון. לאחר שפתחה את עונת 1959/1960 עם מאזן שלילי 13–21, פיטרה דטרויט את רוצ'ה ומינתה במקומו את דיק מקגווייר. בתקופתו בקבוצה רשמו הפיסטונס מאזן כולל של 65 ניצחונות ו-88 הפסדים (42.5%).[6]

בין השנים 1963–1973 שימש כמאמן קבוצת הכדורסל של אוניברסיטת הוואי במנואה. בעונת 1971/1972 העפילה הקבוצה לראשונה בתולדותיה לטורניר אליפות המכללות.

ב-13 בפברואר 2010 נפטר רוצ'ה כתוצאה ממחלת הסרטן, בגיל 86.[7][8]
