"יחידות ההגנה של הנשים" (באנגלית: Women's Defense Units,  בכורדית Yekîneyên Parastina Jin או YPJ, מבוטא Yuh-Pah-Juh[1], ערבית وحدات حماية المرأة תעתיק Wahdat Himayat al-Mar'a) הוא ארגון צבאי כורדי-סורי של נשים בלבד שהגיעו מקבוצות לאום שונות - כורדיות, ערביות, אשוריות, צ'רקסיות וכן מתנדבות מלאומים אחרים.

YPJ הוא המקבילה הנשית של היחידות להגנת העם (כורדית Yekîneyên Parastina Gel, YPG). YPJ ו-YPG יחד הם הזרוע הצבאית של המפלגה הדמוקרטית המאוחדת בסוריה (PYD), הנוטלת חלק במלחמת האזרחים בסוריה בניסיון להגן על עצמאות כורדיסטן הסורית, ועל כן נלחמת הן במשטרו של בשאר אל-אסד המנסה לספח בחזרה את האזור והן בקבוצות המזוהות עם המדינה האסלאמית.

ככוח צבאי כפופות שתי היחידות כיום לארגון הגג הכוחות הסוריים הדמוקרטיים (SDF).

היסטוריה

הארגון צמח מתוך תנועת ההתנגדות הכורדית. הגדוד הראשון הוקם בתחילת מרץ 2013 בעיר ג'ינדריס[2]. לאחר שבוע הוקמו שלושה גדודים נוספים.[3]

בסוף 2014 מספר הלוחמות הוערך בין 7,000 ל-10,000 בין הגילאים 18 עד 40. עד נובמבר 2016 המספר עלה ל-20,000. במרץ 2017 המספר הוערך ב-24,000.

YPJ וארגון האח שלו, ה-YPG, חברו בלחימה כנגד קבוצות שניסו להביא את מלחמת האזרחים לתוך כורדיסטן הסורית, כגון המדינה האסלאמית. הקרב הידוע ביותר שלהם הוא בקרב ההגנה על כובאני שבו נחלו הצלחה מרשימה בשנת 2014 לאחר לחימה קשה ביותר.

הארגון פועל גם מחוץ לגבולות סוריה, ולא רק עבור האוכלוסייה הכורדית. כך למשל הציל הארגון ב 2014 בעיראק אלפי יזידים שהיו נתונים במצור של דאעש על הרי סינג'אר.

בשנת 2015 הצטרף הארגון לכוחות הסוריים הדמוקרטיים (SDF) במאבק כנגד האיום המשותף מצד ארגוני הטרור האסלאמיים הסוניים דאעש וג'בהת א-נוסרה[4].

לוגיסטיקה

YPJ ו-YPG גם יחד מסתמכים על קהילות מקומיות לאספקת מצרכים ומזון, בעוד שנשק וציוד רפואי הם מקבלים בעיקר מארצות הברית. במהלך המצור על כובאני ארצות הברית העבירה אליהם 24 טונות של נשק קל ותחמושת, כמו גם 10 טון של ציוד רפואי[5].

אידאולוגיה

YPJ תומכת באידאולוגיה של מנהיג הכורדים בטורקיה, עבדוללה אג'לאן[6] הקורא להקמת קונפדרציה דמוקרטית לטובת הכורדים באזור. נשים המבקשות להצטרף ליחידה חייבות להשקיע לפחות חודש בתרגול טקטיקות צבאיות ובלימוד המדיניות של אג'לאן. כמו כן הן עוסקות בתורתו הפמיניסטית של אג'לאן המכונה בכורדית jineolojî, כלומר "מדע הנשים".[7]

הארגון זכה לשבחים על ידי פמיניסטיות בהתמודדות עם נושאי מגדר בחברה מסורתית ובהגדרה מחדש את תפקידי הנשים באזור. רוז'דה פלאט, אחת מהמפקדות הבכירות בארגון, היא פמיניסטית מוצהרת, ומטרתה להוביל שינוי חברתי במזרח התיכון באמצעות שוויון בין המינים ושחרור הנשים הכורדיות והערביות מהמגבלות המוטלות עליהן בחברה המסורתית, הערבית והכורדית.
