רקע עלילתי

בשנות ה-30 של המאה ה-20, שני חברים, רופא ועורך דין, הופכים בעל כורחם לחשודים ברצח ומגייסים לעזרתם אחות שהכירו קודם לכן.

פיתוח וליהוק

בינואר 2020, נמסר כי הקולנוען דייוויד או. ראסל יכתוב ויביים סרט בכיכובו של כריסטיאן בייל עבור חברת ההפקות "New Regency", שצילומיו התעתדו להתחיל באותו אפריל.[4] בפברואר 2020, נמסר על ליהוקם של מרגו רובי ומייקל בי. ג'ורדן.[5][6] בנוסף, נודע כי לפני ליהוקם של רובי וג'ורדן, ההפקה שקלה ללהק את ג'ניפר לורנס וג'יימי פוקס. עוד נמסר כי מייקל שאנון, מייק מאיירס ורוברט דה נירו נמצאים בתהליכי משא ומתן על הצטרפות לצוות השחקנים.[7] באוקטובר, נמסר על ליהוקו של ג'ון דייוויד וושינגטון, שיחליף בתפקיד את ג'ורדן שעזב לאחר חוסר זמינות בעקבות עיכוב צילומי הסרט כתוצאה מהתפשטות מגפת הקורונה בארצות הברית.[8] בינואר 2021, נמסר על ליהוקם של רמי מאלק, זואי סלדנה, דה נירו, מאיירס, טימותי אוליפנט, שאנון, כריס רוק, אניה טיילור-ג'וי, אנדראה רייסבורו, מתיאס שונארטס ואלסנדרו ניבולה לצוות השחקנים.[9][10] ביוני 2021, נמסר על ליהוקם של טיילור סוויפט ושון אייברי.[11][12]

באפריל 2022, במהלך כנס ה-CinemaCon, נחשף שמו הרשמי של הסרט.[13]
