Ninfa (bioloxía)

Ninfas e imagos de Lygaeus turcicus (Hemiptera).
Ninfa temperá do saltón Caedicia simplex (Orthoptera).

Ninfa é a fase inmatura da metamorfose dos insectos con metamorfose sinxela (hemimetabolismo), na que se presentan case todas as características do individuo adulto[1]. A diferenza das larvas, as ninfas son semellantes aos adultos, dos que difiren pola falta de madureza das gónadas (órganos sexuais produtores dos gametos), pola miudeza dos apéndices que se atopan onde están as ás nos adultos -"esbozos alíxeros", nos insectos alíxeros-, e no tamaño, máis pequeno. Cando estes estadios inmaturos non amosan os esbozos alíxeros, denomínanse neánidas.[2]

O termo larvas resérvase para as fases xuvenís dos grupos nos que existe metamorfose completa, ou holometabolismo. As larvas distínguense profundamente dos adultos, con anatomías internas e externas diferentes e ás veces tamén hábitos alimentarios, etc., e pasan polo estadio de pupa antes de chegar a adultos.
