Margaret Hamilton, nada en Paoli, Indiana o 17 de agosto de 1936, é unha científica, matemática e enxeñeira de software.

Traxectoria

Estudou matemáticas no Earlham College e tras graduarse mudouse a Massachusetts na procura de obter un posgrao. No seu lugar comezou a traballar como desenvolvedora de software no Instituto de Tecnoloxía de Massachusetts. Comezou traballando na programación de programas meteorolóxicos para a predición do tempo.

Durante a carreira espacial da guerra fría entre os Estados Unidos e Rusia, Margarett converteuse na cabeza do equipo de programación da NASA para a misión de levar o home á Lúa. Conseguiu xunto cos seus compañeiros crear un software válido para unha viaxe de ida e volta á lúa. A maiores Hamilton inventou un programa que lle permitía ao ordenador dar prioridade e refugar tarefas innecesarias, o cal salvou os dous astronautas que ían a bordo, Neil Armstrong e Buzz Aldrin, de colidir ao chegar ao satélite.[1]

Hamilton recibiu o premio á Medalla Presidencial de Liberdade en 2016 de man de Barack Obama, e fundou Hamilton Tecnologies, a súa propia compañía de programación de software.
