Libia (filla de Épafo)

Na mitoloxía grega, Libia foi unha ninfa, filla de Épafo e neta, polo tanto, de Ío e Zeus. Uniuse a Poseidón, ó que lle deu dous fillos, Axenor e Belo. Épafo deu o nome da súa filla ó país de Libia, o territorio ó oeste do río Nilo, no noroeste de África[1].

"Épafo reinou sobre os exipcios e casou con Menfis, filla de Nilo, e co seu nome fundou a cidade de Menfis e enxendrou unha filla, Libia, da que tomou nome o país de Libia. De Libia e Posidón naceron os xemelgos Axenor e Belo".

Algunhas fontes considérana filla de Ío, e non a súa neta; ou filla de Océano, e irmá de Asia e Europa [2]. Tamén, outras tradicións din que Poseidón e Libia tiveron máis fillos: Enialio, Busiris (que se considera fillo de Poseidón con Lisianasa, outra das fillas de Épafo), Fénix (que é un dos fillos de Axenor) e mesmo Atlas.

Ío fora transformada en vaca por Hera, celosa das amantes de Zeus, ou polo propio Zeus, para salvagardala das iras de Hera. Fuxindo da persecución desta, foi dar a Exipto, onde recuperou a forma humana e deu a luz a Épafo, terminando casando con Telégono, o rei do país. Cando Épafo foi adulto, sucedeu a Telégono no trono e casou con Menfis, filla do deus-río Nilo, con quen tivo tres fillas, Libia, Lisianasa e Tebe. Non obstante, para Hixino, Épafo casou con Casiopea e tiveron a Libia [3].
