Jim Hall, nado en Abilene (Texas) o 23 de xullo de 1935[1] é un expiloto de carreiras e construtor estadounidense.

Traxectoria

Competiu na Fórmula 1 de 1960 a 1963, participando en 12 Grandes Premios do Campionato do Mundo e numerosas carreiras fora do campionato.[2] Logrou tres puntos do Campionato do Mundo.

O lugar especial de Hall na historia do automobilismo foi o resultado de que era a "forza motivadora" e parte propietaria, con Hap Sharp, de Chaparral Cars. Baseado na cidade natal de Hall de Midland, Texas, durante a década de 1960, no United States Road Racing Championship e posteriormente na Can-Am, os coches Chaparral foron os coches máis innovadores nas carreiras. Hall foi o primeiro en empregar transmisións automáticas nos seus coches de carreiras. Isto permitiu aos pilotos de Hall un pé libre para operar os spoilers móbiles para a aerodinámica. Hall adoptou moi cedo a aerodinámica aplicada aos coches de carreiras e foi o principal defensor desta tecnoloxía durante toda unha década. Tivo un ano sabático a comezos de 1970, correndo en varias carreiras de SCCA Trans-Am Series. O equipo de Chaparral Cars de Hall volveu a destacar na serie Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART), incluíndo dúas vitorias nas 500 Millas de Indianápolis en 1978 e 1980; este último co primeiro dos coches con efecto terra. Posteriormente volvería aos coches de carreiras para ser o xefe do seu equipo de Indycar, que pasou a chamarse "Jim Hall Racing" ata 1996, cando se retirou das carreiras por completo.

Vida persoal

Hall agora reside en Midland, permanecendo activo no negocio do petróleo e gas e o legado das carreiras de automobilismo.

Unha á enteira no Permian Basin Petroleum Museum en Midland retrata a saga de Hall e Chaparral Cars.[3] O seu fillo, Jim Hall, Jr., reside en California e opera a Jim Hall Kart Racing School.
